Mari Thomas has always been a creative, her enthusiasm and energy to invent and create was inherent within her from very young age. A young Mari Thomas had exhausted the craft section in her local library, she was naturally engaged in the world of arts and craft. 

Her time spent pulling things apart to make something new was not unusual, creative ability ran within the family. Her mother is a talented seamstress who loves sewing and her gran was a milliner who ran her own business designing and making hats - she even studied woodwork at Carmarthen School of Art where Mari attended some 60 years later.

A creative enviroment was developed and nurtured, allowing a natural interest and artistic skill in a young Mari Thomas to thrive, providing confidence to embrace her creative spirit, which flourished throughout school, into higher education and adult life.

She is an artist with notable achievements, her work speaks volumes of her journey as an experienced, unique and respected jeweller. 

Today Mari Thomas is one of Wales' leading artists and has exhibited nationally and internationally as a contemporary designer jeweller and she celebrates 25 years in business this year.

During her career she has won numerous design awards including the prestigious Gold Medal for Craft and Design at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. In recognition for her contribution to the arts in Wales she received an honorary fellowship from the University of Wales Trinity St David.

She has received many prestigious commissions by some of the leading cultural institutions such as BBC Wales, National Eisteddfod of Wales, Wales Millennium Centre, National Library of Wales and the Welsh Rugby Union. Mari has also made the Urdd Eisteddfod crown and two National Eisteddfod of Wales crowns.

She has designed and delivered statement pieces for many well known personalities, dignitaries and Sovereign such as King Charles III, Actors Ioan Gruffudd, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Sheen, Musical artists such as Bryn Terfel, Sting, Boy George, Kim Wilde, Aled Jones, Tim Rhys Evans and Only Men Aloud, Theatrical producers Cameron Mackintosh and Lord Lloyd Webber and style icon and artist Daphne Guinness.

Her jewellery has appeared on the pages of Vogue, Tatler and Hello. She exhibited nationally and internationally including Tokyo, New York, and most recently Collect at Somerset House in London.

She is an alumni of Goldman Sachs 10ksb programme graduating from Saiid Business School Oxford University in 2019 and has been made a Fellow at Design Nation - a portfolio of some of the most acclaimed and innovative designers and craftspeople from across the UK

In 2012 Mari purchased the The Old Castle Hotel in Llandeilo West Wales. The ambience is calm and friendly, with the lights showcasing Mari’s beloved collections, as well as the work of over 35 of the finest national and international jewellers and artists. 

Mari Thomas welcomes the work of other talented jewellers and artists, creating a space that is fitting to their skill, talent and excellence in design. It also allows for greater accessibility for customers, offering more choice for a better experience.
