Every Welsh home had a carthen. On a bed, over the back of a chair, folded in a cupboard for the cold nights. My Nanna had them, so did everyone's, and the patterns are so familiar that people recognise them before they can say why.

These pieces are raised rather than cut away. The weave is pushed up out of the silver so the pattern catches the light, with highlights in 22ct gold picking out the lines the way a bright thread runs through the blanket itself.

Designed with the artist Bex Elliott and made in Llandeilo. This was a limited edition collection of necklaces and there are only a few left.
