Fragile Form began, for me, with a question about language. Welsh is one of the oldest languages in Europe, and until fairly recently, one in decline. This collection is about that fragility, and the strength that survives it.

Each piece is formed in silver, made to resemble the leaves of a book slowly crumbling with age, the material itself deteriorating, brittle, turning to dust. But the words inscribed across the surface, written by hand in both Welsh and English, remain untouched by that decay. Their clarity and vitality hold, even as the page around them falls away.

Sections of that text become the jewellery itself, wearable fragments, precious not only for the silver they're made from, but for the message they carry: that a language can be fragile, and still refuse to disappear.

Fragile Form was shown at COLLECT 2025, the Crafts Council's international art fair at Somerset House, where I exhibited with First of March. Designed and handcrafted in my Llandeilo studio, the sculptural pieces worked by hand. Come and see the pieces in person at my Llandeilo gallery.
